2023 Newsletter - Week 10, Term 4
Greenmeadows School, 15th December Newsletter #19: 2023
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa,
This newsletter contains a number of reminders for the end of the year and for the start of 2024.
During the week we hosted a morning tea for parents who have volunteered in our school over the past year. Many of you were unable to make it, so I just wanted to let you know how much your assistance is appreciated. Without your help we would be unable to offer the wide range of activities that are available to our children. Sincere thanks to you all!
Yesterday our Pasifka group put on a mini-performance to share some of their learning from this year. Wow! So neat to see this new group performing and enjoying the learning that Blossom Sale (our tutor) has been sharing with them. Thank you Blossom for your expertise. We hope that this group will progress to even bigger and better things in 2024!
Also yesterday, a bit later in the day, we held our leavers dance for our outgoing Year 6 tamariki. What a night! It was great to see them all looking so fabulous and enjoying some time together before they move on to the next stage of their schooling. Thank you to all of our staff and their families who worked so hard to make this night special.
Well, that's nearly it for another year. I hope to see you all at our Prize Giving on Monday night.
Ka kite anō,
Darren Holloway
Acting Principal
WELCOME TO GREENMEADOWS SCHOOL
We have one new face around school since our last newsletter - a very warm welcome to Linuki Masachchi
Our roll at present is 495.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE
Huge thanks to those who were able to support the PTA Christmas Raffle. All prize winners have been contacted and today we handed out prizes to children recognising top fundraisers and spot prizes selected from all tamariki who were able to sell a whole sheet. We now have approximately $10,000 more that will be directed towards supporting the new junior play space.

SENIOR PLAYGROUND
There are times when there are sports events at our school outside of normal school hours. If you should be on our grounds watching those sports, please ensure that you are supervising any children that you allow to play on the playground.
CROSSING COMPLIMENTS
Thank you for bearing with our Year 5 Road Patrollers over the past week or so as they train to take over duties next year. They acknowledge your patience as they acquire new skills and they have really appreciated the compliments received from many of our community members.
Adults, please be good role models for our tamariki. Use our patrolled road crossings, and please wait until the all clear is given before crossing the road; your children will copy these behaviours.
Unfortunately traffic turning right into the church car park is once again queuing across our Osier Road crossing. Please avoid making this turn if you can, or stop on the white lines if it looks like your intention to turn will be impeded.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - EARLY CLOSE REMINDER
Our last day of school for the year is Wednesday 20th December. The last day of school is always a half day, with school closing at 12pm, after our final assembly.
PRIZE GIVING REMINDER
Our Prize Giving will be held on the evening of Monday 18th December at 6:30 pm, under He Kapua.
All children are expected to attend and need to be in their full school uniform (hats not required). Children need to be lined up on the school field before 6:20 pm in their class groups.
If you are a first time attendee, it is worth noting that parking can get difficult around the school with large numbers of vehicles arriving. So allow yourselves plenty of time to get settled.
If the weather doesn’t allow the prize giving to go ahead as planned, we will communicate with whānau in the following ways:-
❖ via the GMS Facebook page
❖ send out an alert via the GMS App
Due to Taradale Intermediate School holding their prize giving the following night, there will be no opportunity for postponement. In the event of very wet weather, we would need to hold the event in our hall, as we did last year.
Finally be aware that the school day will start later at 9.30am (and not 9.00am) on Tuesday 19th December.
