2023 Newsletter - Week 6 Term 1.
Greenmeadows School, 17th March Newsletter #4: 2023
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora whānau,
There is a bit going on at the moment, so this week we have broken the fortnightly pattern of newsletters.
First of all I have to say that it was fantastic to see all the families along for parent interviews earlier this week. We find these meetings so valuable ... and are sure that school whānau do too. Having the opportunity to talk about your child helps set the year up so well and allows meaningful communication to flow. Thank you for making the effort to come along.
In other news ... I have been offered, and accepted to take up, a fixed term role at the Ministry of Education to act as a 'Leadership Advisor' for Hawkes Bay and Tairāwhiti. This position will run from the start of Term 2 (24 April) to the end of the 2023 school year. The MoE were looking to provide specific support to rural and small schools, especially in the aftermath of the cyclone. I was a rural school principal for almost twenty years before starting at Greenmeadows School. I have decided to assist where I can, as many of my principal colleagues are facing some incredible challenges in their schools.
This role will definitely conclude at the end of the year - and I certainly want to be back at Greenmeadows School in 2024. Mr Holloway has been very supportive and is happy to take on the acting principal role while I am on leave. I know he will do a brilliant job leading the school.
My final day for 2023 at Greenmeadows School will be on the last day of this term - Thursday 6 April.
Have a great end to the week.
Ka kite anō,
Mark Johnson
Principal
WELCOME TO GREENMEADOWS SCHOOL
This week we have had four new arrivals at our school. A special welcome is extended to Nyla Stewart, Isla Stephens, Wisdom Rigby and Jordy Persson - we know you will have a great time here at GMS!
Our roll at present is 421.
STAFFING NEWS - TERM 2
We are very fortunate to have a replacement who has been working with us all year. Michelle Brown is a wonderful teacher who has been helping fill in for Mrs Millner while she recovers from a broken bone in her leg. She will take the Room 5 class for the remainder of the year - and they are soon to move to one of the newly renovated classrooms facing the field.
And finally ... we have four candidate teachers from EIT with us this year. Hannah Hunt, Becca Williams, Tanisha Shivel and Olivia Cacace have been placed at Greenmeadows School for 2023. Welcome to these energetic educators - it is so wonderful having them at our kura.
BLACK AND WHITE FUNDRAISER - THURSDAY 16 MARCH
WORM FARM
We have moved the worm farm to a more sheltered place at school. The worms survived the move but are pretty hungry after their trip ... can anyone provide some food? They love vegetable greens e.g. lettuce leaves, cabbage leaves, carrot and potato peelings. Send along the food in a bag if you have anything that could help.
CANTEEN NEWS
Please remind your children if they have only ordered a Moosie or a Juicie online, their slip will be kept in the Canteen, make sure they come and collect it after lunch.
If there are any problems with your lunch order please go straight to the Canteen so Mrs Batt can sort it out there and then.
The close off for lunch orders on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is 9am sharp.
