Principal's Message
Just when we thought we had covered all our news last week ... along comes more to share.
Have a wonderfully safe and relaxing time with the holiday break ahead of us.

Principal
STOP PRESS!!!!!!!!!!! Below is a message from the Good Caps organiser ....
'Kia ora koutou – happy Friday, and today is the final day of the Good Caps pilot.
The team at Waste Management has been so busy doing the final weighing of all the lids and caps. There was a significant amount of lids and caps that came in this week … thank you so much!
Over 2800 kgs of lids and caps were collected over 10 weeks, that’s incredible! You should all be so proud of the mahi you and your school community has done.
There are 18 huge sacks full of lids and caps, that were either destined to be litter or sent to landfill.
Ok – now for the results …
Congratulations to:
* Haumoana School (1.521 kgs per student),
* St Mary’s Catholic School (1.375 kgs per student)
AND
* Greenmeadows School (1.347 kgs per student)!'
In total Greenmeadows School collected more than 600kg in weight of lids ... a fantastic total in just ten weeks. Imagine what a year of collecting could save from the landfill or from simply being dumped ...???
Now we await the arrival of the Nanogirl team next term - YAHOO!!!!!
Thanks to everyone for the amazing support you have given to this project - and for helping out the environment as well.
GMS TSUNAMI DRILL - Thursday 20 October
We are also going to hold our tsunami evacuation drill for Greenmeadows School in Week 1 - Thursday 20th October. This is going to be a major exercise, and is part of a New Zealand wide focus on being prepared for an earthquake and tsunami.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The GMS tsunami hikoi to Church Road Winery - Thursday 20th October:
· At 1.15pm we will start our tsunami hikoi – via the crossing at Gloucester Street and up Osier Road
· Our evacuation point is the grassed area immediately north of Church Road Winery
· This is a walk of 1.7km from our school via Osier Road and through Knightsbridge
· As part of the drill we want practice releasing children to their parents, if they are available and want to pick them up. Children will then be released for the remainder of the day and do not need to return to school.
· We anticipate our drill will finish just after 2.00pm on Thursday 22nd October.
· All those children who are not picked up will return to school for the remainder of the afternoon.
If parents are going to pick up their children we ask that you park legally on Church Road. Please do not park in the winery carpark. Be aware that Tironui Drive is very narrow and turning around is very difficult.

WEETBIX AND POKEMON CARDS ...
Unfortunately collections of cards can end up causing problems for us to deal with. This includes:
* cards can go missing/get lost;
* or swapping arrangements which can be 'unfair' and cause upset.
It is safer to ask that card collections stay at home to protect the cards.
SUN HATS TO BE WORN IN TERM 4
Children are required to wear a school hat in Term 4.
The school hats are available with the rest of our uniform from The Warehouse.
