Greenmeadows School 19 May 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa,
We have been hoping that school would continue to feel more like it used to ... and this is happening: YAY!
However we are starting to feel the bite in terms of our staff numbers being off unwell or as close household contacts. Today we have eight staff away and relieving teachers are proving very difficult to get as other schools experience the same situation. We are doing the very best we can to manage this.
We are looking forward to some of our senior role models travelling to the National Young Leaders Day in Palmerston North next week - this is always one of the highlights of the year.
Have a great week!
Ka kite anō,
Mark Johnson
Principal

BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEWS
A message from our new BoT Chairperson Ryan Hambleton:
I would like to introduce myself as the newly appointed Presiding Member (Chair) for Greenmeadows School.
I take on the role from Emma Taylor-Meynell who has been part of the school Board of Trustees since 2013 and Chairperson since February 2017. She has provided valuable support and advice to both the management team and Board. I would like to thank Emma for her commitment and leadership over the years. It has been great to sit alongside Emma on the Board and I am sure I speak on behalf of past and present Board members when I say you have made a great contribution to the success of the school and our Board.
I am the General Manager at Sport Hawke’s Bay and our mahi has tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of everything we do. This links so well into the education sector and I am honoured to work alongside my other Board members, the Senior Management team and the great teaching staff we have as part of our Greenmeadows whānau to support our tamariki to learn, grow and achieve.
I have been part of the Greenmeadows School community for 7 years with my three daughters all loving their time and the opportunities given to them by our dedicated teaching staff. I am excited about the ongoing developments taking place across our school and believe the new spaces available to our tamariki will only add to the special time they have while at school. Thank you to everyone who continues to contribute to these spaces, especially our great PTA.
I would like to again acknowledge my fellow Board members and congratulate Kate Fox (Vice Chair) and Megan Banks (Treasurer) for their appointed roles but also thank Chris Burgess, Hannah Dudson, Keil Hutchings, Crete Whaanga, Ally Ross and Mark Johnson for your ongoing support.
If you would like to learn more about the role of a board and board members, I encourage you to speak to one of our parent representatives.
FORTNIGHTLY WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES
BUILDING PROGRESS AT SCHOOL
The framing is now being put up in the new administration area which is exciting. The building is really starting to take shape. The new Library is also clear to see now too, joining the new building to the original block by Room 1a.
The plans had originally allowed us to keep many of the trees in the front of the school. However it has become apparent that the large exotic tree right in the middle of the new entranceway to the school may have to be removed. This is very sad, but if it is to be removed the school will plant replacement trees to compensate.
