Newsletter - Week 10 Term 1
Greenmeadows School 6 April 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa,
We move along with through this term with a mere five more days of school remaining after today. It has certainly been a term with a lot of different challenges.
There are some activities planned before next Wednesday including:
- the six Pohutukawa classes going to Anderson Park on Friday 8th April
- Year 6 students taking part in the annual schools ANZAC service at the Taradale Clock Tower on Tuesday 12th April from 11.00am.
The COVID-19 influence on the school still lingers with just under 100 children absent from school today, along with a number of staff. Hopefully the holiday break can give all the chance to rest and recuperate. We are certainly looking forward to the second term of the year when we can get things back closer to normal, whilst still acting with caution and care.
Ka kite anō,
Mark Johnson
Principal
WELCOME TO GMS
Our roll is currently 446 students.
TEACHER ONLY DAY - Thursday 14 April
Thursday 14 April has been scheduled as a teacher only day. This means that children do not come to school on this day - the holiday break commences one day early for you all.
COVID-19 INFORMATION
We continue to have a significant number of our community affected by Omicron. Today, we have 79 children isolating.
KOWHAI: 7 household contacts, 32 positive cases.
POHUTUKAWA: 12 household contacts, 4 positive cases.
TOTARA: 8 household contacts, 16 positive cases.
STAFF: 1 household contact, 4 positive cases.
We have had some queries regarding returning to school while there have been mulitple cases in a household. If your child has been isolating and has not tested positive at any stage, the graphic below may be helpful in deciding when to return to school.
WORM FARM NEWS!!
1. Our GMS worm farm continues to thrive in the face of searing summer heat and autumn rain-filled weeks. We are trying to avoid giving the worms too much in the way of fruit scraps, and focussing on getting them to 'eat their vegies'. So if you have surplus cabbage leaves or carrot peelings etc. we could use these as food. Thanks in anticipation!
2. And ... a notice from former GMS student Angelyn Zeng now at NGHS:
For part of my business class at school, three other girls and I have formed a company called 'Grubs' under the Young Enterprise Scheme.
We are looking to produce and sell worm tea - a liquid fertiliser. We are currently undertaking market research and have put together a short survey.
I was wondering if you could put the survey in the GMS newsletter for the GMS parents and grandparents to fill out?
Here is the link to the survey:

Many thanks.
