Newsletter - Week 8 Term 3
Greenmeadows School 16th September 2021 - Level 2 at GMS
Principal's Message
Kia ora e te whānau,
School under Level 2 ... it almost feels like things are back to normal: but not just yet.
Can I say that it's fantastic to see how well your children have settled into school these past few days. They have turned out ready and keen - and so willing to resume their time at school with their friends and teachers. Ka pai tamariki ma!
There has been some talk in the media about the possibility of moving the school holidays which are due to start in just over a fortnight. To be clear there has not been any official indication that there could be a change in the dates, and this really does seem unlikely. We are working on the theory that we have twelve (yes only TWELVE) more days of school left this term.

TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORI
GMS UNDER DELTA LEVEL 2
Many of the strategies we have put into place to deal with Level 2 requirements have been going very well. Hopefully Level 1 will not be too far away for our region.
Parents and caregivers - we ask that you please help us while we are still at Level 2:
* please drop (and pick up) your children at the school gates, unless there is a real issue with your child coming into school. The alert levels above '1' have been very helpful in building self-confidence for so many children.
* if you need to bring your child into school, please scan in using the QR code which is displayed in several points around the school. Take them to the room and depart ASAP. If for any reason you need to go into your child's room, we request that you wear a face mask. Thanks for your cooperation.
We notice that more adults are coming into our office as the number of days we are open increases - while we are Level 2, we ask for you to wear a mask if you have to enter our administration area.
Many thanks.
NEW CLASSROOMS PROGRESS
The builders have been making some wonderful progress these past few weeks and it still looks like they will be completed by the beginning of the last week of this term.
At this stage we are planning to get the new classrooms blessed at the start of Week 10 and moving in over the course of the next few days that week before the holiday starts. The children currently being taught in the hall (Rooms 12 and 13) will start their learning in the new building at the beginning of Term 4.
In Term 4 our temporary administration area with the office, staffroom, library and sick bay will be in the new classroom next to the OSCAR building. This will be the case until the new hall and administration block are constructed sometime in 2023.
COVID FORCED CANCELLATIONS AND POSTPONEMENTS
The list of cancelled events continues to grow:
* Napier schools cross country due to be held at Park Island has been cancelled as has the Hawkes Bay championships which were set to run in the final week of Term 3
* the Greenmeadows School cross country has also been cancelled for this year
* we have made the call that we will not be able to attend the Jump Jam competition in Tauranga early next term ...
All very unfortunate decisions, that none of us wanted to have to make. Fingers crossed for a change in the near future.
FRIDAY ASSEMBLY
We will be spread out a little more than our usual assembly seating to promote some distancing in these COVID-19 times.
SCHOLASTIC LUCKY BOOK CLUB UPDATE
This means for Book Club we are unable to fulfil your orders until Auckland reaches Level 2 or lower.
And to finish ...
Miss Rebecca Start has officially resigned from her full-time teaching position. Rebecca has been on maternity leave enjoying her time with her son Fox. We are sure we will still see her around in the future though ... Rebecca has been relief teaching just this week.
We will farewell Miss Start and Mr Mellon in an assembly at the end of the term during the afternoon of Friday 1 October.
Have a great week - kia pai to wiki!
Ka kite anō
