Newsletter - Week 4, Term 3
Greenmeadows School 18th August 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa,
Our school is becoming more environmentally aware all the time. We certainly have a way to go but think about these already:
- the school environmental group who went with Ms Ceirwyn Ware yesterday on a field trip to PanPac, White Pine bush and then planting trees at the Guthrie Smith outdoor centre
- our Matariki celebration which had minimal waste as a result with the recycling and use of many natural materials
- a number of students being dedicated recyclers and collectors of items to keep out of the rubbish bins and landfills
- our school worm farm
- and the amazing amounts of plastic bottle tops and metal caps we are gathering in the Good Caps Collection competition.
The Good Caps Collection continues throughout Term 3 - and we are getting close to half the time gone. Please keep those piles of tops and lids coming. GMS is doing really well in this competition - we have collected well over 125kg of tops not going into the local landfill.
The aim is to get Nanogirl sessions for our school ... we need to finish in the top three to guarantee this. This week the staff had a session with some Nanogirl scientists - which was a great way to learn even more about recycling and chemistry. The children would love it if they could be involved in this learning as well.
Ka kite anō,
Mark Johnson
Principal

GMS WORM FARM
THE GREAT KIWI CIRCUS TICKETS
The school has been sent 30 free tickets to the Great Kiwi Circus which is coming to Hawkes Bay on Tuesday 6th September. The show will be held at Tamatea Intermediate starting at 6pm.
These tickets are funded by supporters in our community who want to gift a child/family within our community. This event is put on for underprivileged children, children with special needs and children that are going through hardship. If you think you meet that criteria either flick an email back to us or contact the school office. We will need to know how many tickets you require for your family. We will draw the names from a hat if we receive more than the allocated number of tickets.
There will be spot prizes and audience participation but for further information about the show go to: www.goingbananasshow.co.nz. Children can also enter a colouring competition and win some fantastic prizes.
