Greenmeadows School 100 Year Centennial

 Greenmeadows School Centennial 1911-2011

Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October 2011

Dear past Pupils and Staff,

The dates above are when our school will celebrate being in existence for exactly one hundred years.  We would like you and your partners to be present to celebrate this milestone.

Greenmeadows School has had an unusual history.  It started as a three classroom school, known as a 'side school' of Taradale Primary in 1911.  Standard 5 and 6 pupils (now Year 7 and 8) went to Taradale School or Napier Intermediate, until 1958 when Taradale Intermediate came into existence.  The growth over the past few decades of the Taradale and Greenmeadows areas saw the expansion of the school to what is today.

Our celebrations are being kept to a minimum, while allowing past pupils time to mix and mingle and meet up with other school mates.  At this early stage the following is the plan for activities:

Friday 30 September –

·                     'Open Day' at Greenmeadows School.  School classes will be participating in various activities during the day.

Saturday 1 October (exactly 100 years to the day of the opening of Greenmeadows School) -

·                     Roll Call

·                     Photographs

·                     Light lunch

·                     Archive display

An evening function 'wine and cheese' event at a venue, yet to be decided.  Speeches of welcome and a guest speaker, commencing early evening.

The organising committee is asking for indications of those who may attend by asking them to email indications of registration to 100years@gms.school.nz or mailing the 'Centennial Committee'- Greenmeadows School, P.O. Box 5104, Greenmeadows.
